How We Choose the Books We Recommend
What actually earns a book a place in our lists: the eight things we weigh before a title is recommended to a reader.

A recommendation is a small promise: that the hours you spend will be worth spending. We take that seriously, so selections are made editorially rather than by popularity alone.
We weigh reader appeal, craft, genre variety, originality, discussion potential, author range and how naturally a book fits one of the current reading challenge prompts. A book does not need to tick every box — but it does need a reason we can state plainly.
We also say what we do not do. We do not claim sales figures we cannot verify, we do not invent ratings, and we do not present a book as a bestseller unless the underlying information has been supplied and checked.
Where a book has verified retailer information, you will see it on the book page. Where it does not, you will see the cover, the author, the genre and an honest note — and nothing that pretends to be more.
